Description |
English: A worked flint trancet axe struck from a mottled dark brown/grey flint and of Mesolithic date. It is roughly plano-convex in form and of tranchet type, although relatively small in size. Both faces have invasive retouch and one side retains a small area of cortex at a prominent central ridge. The cutting edge is convex in form with flake removal and edge retouch visible on both faces. It measures 127.47mm in length, 49.17mm in width, 27.91mm in thickness and 187.18g in weight. This is a tranchet axe of Mesolithic date, c.8,300-4,500 BC. |
