Title
Mesolithic tranchet adze
Description
English: A flint tranchet adze of probable Mesolithic date.

The implement is parallel-sided along most of its length, slightly tapering at the top. The adze is of pointed-oval section, the height being significantly greater above the level of the edges than below it. On either side of the axe the flake removal scars angle downwards from the broad, roughly defined central ridge. The removal of the transverse sharpening flake has created a steep, wedge-like blade. A similar flake has also been removed from the top end of the adze. The surface of the flint is mottled, light grey to creamy-white in colour.

Dimensions: 120.5mm long, 51.1mm wide, 33.1mm thick. Weight: 217g.
