Title |
Mesolithic or Neolithic axe |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete, snapped flint tranchet axe of Mesolithic to Neolithic date, struck from a pale yellow/orange flint. One end survives intact, probably the butt end or the unfinished blade end, snapped towards the centre due to old breaks and a flaw in the stone. It is oval shaped in section, bifacially worked with multiple flake scars on both face and limited crude edge retouch. Orange staining on both faces indicates plough damage. It measures 60.50mm in length, 49.31mm in width, 22.39mm in thickness and 71.09g in weight. This is an incomplete struck flint axe of either Mesolithic or Neolithic date, c.8,300-2,100 BC. |
