Title
Mesolithic microburin
Description
English: Knapped flint secondary blade with retouch creating two notches possibly as a preliminary to making a microlith. The proximal end, with the bulb of percussion, has already been removed, probably for the same purpose. The percussion ripploes remain on the ventral face thought the bulb is removed. It is broadly triangular in plan, thickening at the distal end, with aris runing down the centre of the dorsal face and scars suggesting previous parallel blade removals from the same platform. There is a small patch (less than 5%) of cortex at the distal end.

The edges are chipped all the way around on both faces but two deliberate notches have been created from the ventral face, one on each edge half way down the remaining blade. The proximal end is chipped but appears to have deliberatekly thinned and snapped. The retouch has breated an angled sectioned thin tip as seen on a borer tool and it could be used in that way.

It is 44.4mm long, 18.8mm wide and 7.3mm thck and weighs 5.70 grams. It is pale buff translucent flint of high quality.

The long parallel blade and in particular the notching on both edges, possibly as a preliminary to breaking the flint suggests a Mesolithic date.
