Description |
English: A complete tranchet type axehead of Mesolithic date. It has a slightly patinated mottled grey/black flint with a small area of cortex remaining at the butt end. It is pointed oval in section, tapering towards the butt end and with steep flake removal on both faces. The cutting edge is roughly crescentic in form with transverse flake removal. This axe measures 109.67mm in length, 44.70mm in maximum width, 32.83mm in thickness, and weighs 138.43g. It is of Mesolithic date, c.8,300-4,500 BC. |
