Mesolithic Serrated Implement
Description
English: Grey flint with cortex and misty white patina, serrated implement. Long flake with long parallel flakes removed from the dorsal side and a small bulb at one end of a slightly concave ventral surface. Very short abrupt retouch along one side may indicate an initial use as a serrated implement; what cortex remains is on the opposite edge, and would have permitted pressure to be exerted. Patina extends over the serrated edge. A subsequent episode of very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect trimmed part of this cortex and removed the patina associated with the original working. As patina has not developed over this rejuvenation work, the object was probably incorporated into a sealed context shortly after its re-use. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic, 7000-3500 BC.
