Description

The caption on the front says "Our store on Jackson St, Seattle" One of the men is identified as "Clyde". On the back is another caption, "Clyde Meredith's store in Seattle".

Looking at city directories, the only Meredith grocery on Jackson that I can find was co-owned by Clyde Meredith's dad. James W. Meredith was in business with E. W. Sheets briefly in 1914 at a store at 2801 Jackson. Interestingly, that address later was the location of a Safeway warehouse. In 1950 that warehouse was converted into the Tabernacle Baptist Church, which continues today in the expanded building.

Clyde Meredith clerked at his dad's previous store, named Meredith & Sons at 4451 Woodland Park. His brother Frank also worked at that store. That is listed in 1909 and 1910.

In 1911 Clyde was clerking at Winslow grocery, which was at 4301 Woodland Park Ave. In 1912 he was listed as a student.

In 1914 Clyde had his own grocery store at 7464 Woodlawn Ave N. He continued there until the 1918 directory.

By 1915 father James W. Meredith was in Manette, a town on the east side of Bremerton on Telegraph Avenue. He had store that started listed as a hardware store, then general store. Clyde had joined him by the WW1 draft cards in 1917, and the store changed to Meredith & Son, grocers.

Clyde continued Meredith & Son after James' death in about 1927. In 1929 his store was at 2201 11th East, Bremerton. Clyde lived in Bremerton through the 1950s at least.
