Summary

[edit]
Description

Customer Center, located at the Sindelfingen factory. I took an early morning cab ride from downtown Stuttgart, paid for with a Mercedes-Benz voucher, which took me 30 minutes through some scenic rolling landscapes.

This is the place for factory delivery of brand-new Mercedes-Benz vehicles, direct to the customer. The vehicles had been ordered via an authorized dealer and built to the exact order specifications. This place has all the ambiance of a maternity ward, since these cars are newborn babies!

All factory delivery in Europe happens here at Sindelfingen (home of C, E, and S), regardless of actual assembly location of the vehicle, such as Bremen (GLK), Strasbourg (Smart), or even Alabama (ML, GL, R). Most of these vehicles are for Europeans taking a leisurely drive home, but a few are for North Americans who will use the vehicle for European sightseeing before shipping home. It is not possible for a North American to take delivery of an Alabama-built vehicle here.

(The Alabama factory has a similar delivery center that works the same way - all models delivered to Americans for a long drive home, and American-built models delivered to Europeans for sightseeing prior to shipment to Europe.)

Cars are entering and exiting every few minutes. However, the robust ventilation system does an excellent job of whisking away the exhaust fumes - without even being noticeable.
