[edit]DescriptionMercedes-Benz C250 (US) - Flickr - skinnylawyer.jpg |
The 2012 update of the popular C-class. In the US market, the C serves as Mercedes-Benz's entry-level volume seller, as the front-wheel-drive compacts, the A and the B, are not offered. The C250 moniker indicates that the car comes with the new 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, which is more powerful and economical compared to the outgoing 3.0L V6 of last year's C300. The current automotive trend is to use smaller engines that still get more power, torque, and fuel economy thanks to a modern, improved turbocharger system. The 2012 update also redesigns the dashboard, so that the navigation screen is always accessible rather than folded away. I hated the 2008-2011 dashboard of the C-class, so this is a welcome update. This particular example is in the Sport (Avantgarde in other markets) trim, which makes up the vast majority of US-market C-classes. The C250 Sport is a rare Mercedes-Benz sedan that can be had with a manual transmission. Starting price is $34,800, which is quite steep for a car of its size and equipment. Typical options push the price past $40,000. But the Mercedes-Benz reputation for performance remains a big draw, as is Mercedes-Benz's excellent European Delivery program (good for 7% discount), which I had used for a 2010 E-class and loved. (The European Delivery may not be available much longer for the C-class, however, as Mercedes-Benz's American assembly plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, will start producing it soon.) Seen at Los Angeles International Auto Show, 2011. |
