English: A Bell 47 G2 exhibited at Meravo. Serial number XT522. Built by Bell in 1968. Avco Lycoming VO-435-B1A flat engine with 6 cylinders. Cylinder volume 7.13 liters. 265 horsepower. 196 km/h. Range 400 km. Net weight 786 kg. Maximum startweight 1293 kg. One or two passengers. On 8 March 1946 this was the first civilian helicopter type to obtain an Approved Type Certificate. Production lasted from 1948 to 1973. 6000 units of this type were built. The Bell 47 was used for civilian and military work in many countries. It became famous through its recue missions in the Korean War. Its limited capacity was compensated for by its simplicity and low price. Meravo still uses this type of helicopter for training flights. Soloy Bell 47s modified to turbine engines are still in use for utility work like spaying vineyards. |
