Summary
[edit]DescriptionMental Health Flag.svg |
English: The flag representing the mental health movement.
The Mental Health flag represents support for all efforts in mental health. We at The Pete Foundation, along with widespread collaboration from Louisville mental health organizations and advocates, as well as professionals from many other backgrounds, introduced the flag in 2020. Green is already the established color for mental health awareness, and for that reason is the base of the flag. The design of the flag reflects a sunrise and the shift from dark to light through brighter shades of color. These shades also represent the various states of our emotional or psychological life. The value of the simple design is to make it more relatable, replicable, and transcultural. This Mental Health Flag was created in collaboration with over 100 Louisville mental health organizations/care providers, artists, designers, advocates, and community members to convey support for all efforts in mental health. Our goal is for the flag to become a global symbol for supporting all mental health initiatives and all those affected by mental illness. It is a representative of a shared identity and commitment. Green is known as the mental health awareness color. Yellow is known to represent happiness and hope. The flag’s different shades of color from dark green to yellow represent both a personal journey from a dark place to a happy place, as well as our collective efforts to bring the topic of mental health out of the darkness and into the light. The curved shapes represent an embracing of those suffering from mental illness and an acceptance of mental health as a community focus. |
