Burne-Jones for Mr. Craven,illustrating the story of Pygmalion, respectivelyThe Heart Desires, The Hand Refrains, TheGodhead Fires, and The Soul Attains ; this setwas exhibited at the Grosvenor Gallery in 1879 ;one, and only one, offer of 3,500 guineas was re-ceived for the four. The Kennedy property con-tained an uncommonly fine series of Turner draw-ings, eleven in number. The highest price wentfor the Lake and Town of Zug, 11x18, formerlyin the collection of Mr. Ruskin, from whom Mr.Kennedy obtained it, 1,100 guineas; another ex- LANCRET, NICAISE. TIIK KENNEDY TURNERS. ^53 ample from Mr. Ruskins collection, Arona, 11 ^ x i6,700 guineas, at which price the well-known draw-ing of Carew Castle, 11 x 18, from the Addingtonand Heugh collections, was also knocked down ; thelatter is engraved in Turners England andWales an interesting little view of Oxford en-graved by Goodall in 1841, was made for a Mr.Ryman of Oxford in 1839, Turner received 100guineas for it, and it was afterwards in the Munrosale, 490 guineas. Mr. Kennedys twenty draw-ings and four pictures realized a total of ^6,447.The late Thomas Woolners pictures included :—W. Mulready, Idle Boys, 1815, 1,000 guineas;T. Gainsborough, Portrait of General Wolfe, 520guineas ; and the celebrated picture by J. F.Lewis, The Bezestein Bazaar of El Khan Khalil,Cairo, from the David Price collection, 1,400guineas.
