Ludden,Bishop of the city of Syracuse, New York state, to have and tohold the same, and every part thereof, with the appurtenances,to them, their heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns asjoint tenants, and not as tenants in common. Third—1 hereby nominate and appoint Most Rev. Michael A.Corrigan, Archbishop of the city of New York; Rt. Rev. CharlesE. McDonnell, Bishop of the city of Brooklyn, New York state,and Rt. Rev. Patrick A. Ludden, Bishop of the city of Syracuse,New York state, the executors of this, my will. Legally the inference is correct. The Bishopheld m.uch of the diocesan property in his own name. But inreality he was merely the guardian of this property, and consid-ered himself as not owning a dollar of it in the sense of absolutepersonal possession. Like his predecessor, Bishop Timon, Bishop Ryan came poorto the diocese; and, though the custodian of large trusts, he diedpoor—personally not claiming a penny.
