THIS STONE IS ERECTED TO COMMEMORATE THE SUDDEN AND DISASTROUS INUNDATION OF THE PELSALL HALL COLLIERY ON THE 14TH DAY OF NOVEMBER 1872 WHEREBY THE 22 MINERS WHOSE NAMES ARE INSCRIBED HEREON LOST THEIR LIVES AND WHOSE BODIES ARE, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF JOHN HUBBARDS'S, BURIED BENEATH "IN THE MIDST OF LIFE WE ARE IN DEATH" |
