On August 4th I saw another island to the south of the large one. It was oval in shape, perhaps twenty by thirty feet in its diameters, and about ten or twelve feet high, with perpendicular and overhanging sides. I visited the pit crater Makaopuhi July 31st, and on August 2nd I saw considerable steam issuing from cracks in it mostly at the intersection of the wall with the talus, that is, along the top of the talus.
