Description
English: Photograph by Melbourne photographer Josiah E. Barnes, of members of the 58th Battalion reinforcements. Kew, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, c1915. The image depicts a group portrait of the 58th battalion standing on a wharf waiting to embark. They are wearing overcoats and slouch hats and some have their caps attached to their shoulders. A flag is being held at the centre of the group it has two broad horizontal lines with the inscription `4/58'. A troopship can be seen in the background and the reverse of the image has a handwritten inscription reading: `4th of 58th batt' in lead pencil. Another pencil inscription above it reads `Orsova'. The troopship HMAT ORSOVA embarked from Melbourne 1 August 1916 with the 58th Battalion reinforcements.
