English: Meldon Quarry. Meldon Quarry was opened by the London & South Western Railway when it discovered that the rock (called hornfels) was perfect for railway ballast. The quarry is beside the former Exeter-Okehampton-Plymouth line, part of which is now the Dartmoor Railway. |
