Mejias family stepping out of an airplane
Summary
[edit]DescriptionMejiasfamilyarriving.jpg |
English: Written on note attached on verso: "At International Airport, Miami, members of the Gilberto J. Mejias family are leaving the plane that makes two round trips daily to Cuba, bringing Cuban refugees. They will go from the airport by bus to the Cuban Refugee Program processing area at Opa Locka, a Miami suburb. There they will go through formalities of the U.S. Immigration Service, Custom and Public Health, and then register with the U.S. Cuban Refugee Program. They will select a Resettlement Agency - International Rescue Committee in this case - and go by bus to Freedom House, back at the airport, where they will stay several nights before taking a plane for New Jersey to join Mr. Mejias' brother Edenio who 'claimed' his brother and family under [...] the U.S.-Cuba agreement that makes it possible for people in Cuba to join relatives in this country. Edenio Mejias [...] lives at 130 First Street, Elizabeth, N.J. Photo, U.S. Cuban Refugee Program" |
