Summary

[edit]
Description This diagram shows the chromosomal nondisjunction in the father that can result in XYY syndrome in his son. The two X chromosomes separate correctly (one per sperm cell), but the shorter Y chromosomes do not separate, which results in one cell with two chromosomes, and one cell with zero chromosomes. The sperm cells containing one X chromosome would produce healthy daughters. The sperm cell containing two Y chromosomes would produce a son with XYY syndrome. The sperm cell with no sex chromosome might produce a daughter with Turner syndrome (monosomy X).
