Jahrhunderts exotischen Tieren. Laut eines Mitarbeiters des Café Sundström, soll die Fries Hanibals Armeen darstellen.

Mehringdamm 61 plays an important roll in the LGBT cultural history of Berlin and of Germany. The café in the front section of this typical 19th Century Berlin tenement is named after the artist and activist Melitta Sunström. In the inner yard behind the café was the location of the Schwules Museum* between 1988 and 2013. Access to the club SchwuZ was through the café beginning in 1994 until 2013 when SchwuZ moved to Rollbergstraße 26 in Berlin-Neukölln.

The frieze around the wall just under the cieling shows a military procession with camels and other in the view of 19th Century Northern Europe exotic animals. According to an employee of Café Sundstrom, the frieze is meant to represent Hannibals armies.
