Summary

[edit]
Description
English: As a super typhoon, Megi reached the lowest recorded pressure since Hurricane Wilma in 2005 before landfalling in the Philippines. Most storms weaken as they approach land, but Megi did not, making it the most intense storm to have ever made landfall with winds around 190 mph. After crossing the island and weakening somewhat, the storm has re-intensified and is now heading towards the China coast. Evacuations of the islands and mainland are underway. Shown here is one of the last visible images before nightfall in which the entire storm can be seen, taken at 0630Z on October 21, 2010. Megi's maximum sustained winds are around 125 mph. Current predictions from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center have the storm making landfall around 2300Z northeast of Hong Kong and west of Taiwan.
