Summary
[edit]DescriptionMeet Brian and Matt (52355015589).jpg |
The fishing industry is under attack which it seems is due to financial and political motives. It is quite easy to sit behind a desk and crunch numbers and make decisions without seeing the impact on the people it affects. It dehumanizes it when you don’t get to see their faces or hear their voices. What people aren’t realizing is the snowball effect of all of this. Yes, fisherman will not be able to provide for their families, yes legacies will be lost, yes their children will have to find other means to support themselves as adults. This is tragic. There is a much greater impact than just the fisherman. Everyone from the guys who fish for bait, trap makers, rope makers, parts providers, marine repair, dockworkers, packers, and shippers are all going to be affected. What happens when the fisherman can’t make their boat payments and the boats aren’t worth anything? The bank will repossess boats, the loans will not be paid, and some of the local banks may suffer. What about the local truck and trailer dealerships? Will people be able to afford trucks if they aren’t earning a decent living? Local dealerships will struggle. What about the food trucks and seafood restaurants if people are boycotting Maine lobster? I do not fish. I am not married to a fisherman. My friends are fisherman. My kids have friends who fish. I take care of fisherman. We should all be greatly concerned about the devastating impact this will have on the entire state. While overall my social media following is meager, I know some of you have a much further reach of audience. I am asking you to expand the reach of this problem so the country sees the human side of the issue, not the poorly supported data the media is shoving down their throats. |
