Title
Medieval vessels: 6-11: IRSW rod and strap handles (reverses)
Description
English: Twelve medieval jug fragments:

1-5: Coarse, fairly plain Midlands white ware (MWW) handles. Off-white/pale orange coloured fabric with an off-white coloured core. Stabbed decoration. ?Late medieval

6-11: IRSW rod and strap handles. Coarse orange fabric with grey/orange core. Incised decoration (numbers 6, 9, 10, 11) and partially glazed (numbers 6, 7, 8, 10). Number 6 has about 20% of a rim remaining which was approximately 11cm in diameter.

12: Iron-rich sandy ware (IRSW) rod handle. Orange fabric with a grey core. Green glaze on the front.

Deb Klemperer of the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery comments: “A ?14th-15th century assemblage of jug fragments. Fairly coarse, plain. Iron-rich sandy ware (IRSW) appears earlier than that, 12th/13th century, with white ware appearing 13th century onwards, but the forms (and poor preparation of the white ware fabric) might suggest the date given above.”
