Title
Medieval vessel; laver spout with dog's head
Description
English: Medieval vessel spout; cast copper alloy spout from a medieval laver of probable 15th century date. The spout has a tubular mouth, of circular cross section, which emerges from the mouth of a moulded dog’s head. The head is fairly simple, having a little upturned snout, a ridge to represent the eyes, a further ridge along the top of the head and an upstanding, flat, rectangular ear on either side of the head. The spout continues beyond the dog’s head and is then cut away at the top, to form a channel rather than a tube. The channel curves sharply downwards, coming to a point at the base.

Length 62.1mm, width 15.9mm, thickness (at ears) 18.5mm, weight 62.9g

Ref: see the example in Mills, page 110, artefact NM.292, which is almost identical to this.
