Title |
Medieval vessel: Ewer spout |
||
Description |
English: A copper alloy vessel spout dating to the late medieval or early post-medieval period. The cylindrical spout was cast separately from the rest of the vessel and soldered on via the sloping 'C' shaped arm. The spout itself is tubular and terminates in a globular-like swelling, bounded by narrowed collars, from which protrudes the end of the spout, again rounded in form. Most commonly spouts of this kind terminate in a dog's head, so this example is unusual being of plain form. These artefacts are pouring spouts likely to be from a pedestal based ewer like a washing bowl or laver and date to around the 15th century AD. |
