Title |
Medieval vessel: Ewer spout |
||
Description |
English: A Medieval cast copper alloy zoomorphic vessel spout probably dating to the 15th century AD. The cylindrical spout was cast separately from the rest of the vessel and soldered on via the long sloping 'C' shaped arm. The spout itself is tubular and terminates in a dog's head with open mouth from which protrudes the end of the spout. The dog's head has a moulded nose, prominent, rounded brow and sub-oval ears that extend slightly above the flattened head; the eyes are not distinguished. These artefacts are pouring spouts likely to be from a pedestal based ewer like a priests washing bowl (or laver). Further spouts recorded on the database include: HAMP-109444, BERK-135A64, HESH-752594, and WAW-D138E8. |
