Title
Medieval vessel: Ewer leg
Description
English: A fragment of a leg of a copper alloy vessel of medieval or early post-medieval date. The leg fragment is shaped like an animal's foot with a rounded front akin to a paw. There is a knee-type projection halfway up the leg, while the reverse of the leg is flat and the front broadly rounded. It is likely that this object is the leg from an ewer or small cauldren. These vessels were commonly used from the 14th century through to the 16th century, however copper vessels were in use from the 12th century AD (Lewis 1987).
