Title
Medieval to post-medieval concrete pipe fragment
Description
English: A fragment of what may be an architectural pipe. The material appears to be concrete rather than ceramic, and is curved, suggesting it may have been a pipe. The interior is covered in a dark grey to black deposit - this does not appear to be a glaze and so may be associated with the object's use, possibly a carbon deposit from burning. The exterior of the concrete is decorated with four lateral ridges, perhaps indicating that the feature was in part of a building intended to be visible. This fragment is of indeterminate date, but it has been recovered from an area which has produced medieval floor tiles and pottery of 14th century date as well as pottery of 17th to 18th century date. It is therefore likely to be medieval to post-medieval in date.
