Title |
Medieval to Post Medieval Purse frame |
||
Description |
English: A worn and corroded fragment of a cast copper-alloy purse frame of late Medieval to Post Medieval date (c. AD 1450-1600). The fragment is rectangular in plan and broadly 'L'-shaped in section, with the exterior edge sloping gently whilst the interior edge falls away more steeply. The exterior edge retains traces of incised decoration which incorporates possible letters and spirals, although this is now difficult to discern as a result of the wear and corrosion on the fragment; the interior side is undecorated. This artefact has a dark green-brown colour overall. This fragment appears to be of Williams Class A (1-2) due to the cross-section and traces of a possible inscription.
This purse frame fragment measures 31.5mm in length, with a width of 7.7mm and a thickness of 3.7mm. It weighs 3.9 grams. |
