Title
Medieval to Post Medieval Ewer Spout
Description
English: Medieval ewer spout in the form of a seated lion.

While these spouts usually take the form of dogs heads, this example is a full body version. Lined decoration around the shoulders is suggestive of a mane, therefore making this a lion rather than a dog. The snout of the animal is short and the ears are short and pointed, further indicating a cat-like creature.

A hole of circular section runs through the lion from the hindquarters to the mouth, from which it projects in the form of a tube.
