Title
Medieval to Post-medieval : Ring or brooch
Description
English: A large cast copper alloy ring, possibly a large annular buckle. It is circular in section, with an area of wear corresponding to where a strap or pin may have been joined to the ring. Since there is no wear opposite this point, it is not possible to classify the object as a buckle by wear pattern alone. It is similar to Egan (1991) p58-59 ref.28-53, but wider in diameter than the examples given. The metal has a dark brownish-grey patina, but where the surface has worn through there are patches of brassy coloration. It is not possible to date the object decisively; a medieval date is most probable.
