Medieval strap end
Description
English: A Medieval copper alloy, zoomorphic strap end, dating from c. 1350-1400. It consists of a cast upper portion and terminal, and a separate, thinner, sheet back attached with two copper alloy rivets. The terminal is in the shape of a dog's head, delineated by a number of incised grooves. There is no other decoration. The strap end has a rough, dark green patina. It is 36.7mm long, 8.7mm wide and 5.5mm thick. It weighs 2.94gm. Reference: Griffiths, Philpott & Egan, Meols: The Archaeology of the North Wirral Coast, Plate 23, Nos. 1544/5.
