Title
Medieval strap end
Description
English: Incomplete Medieval tinned lyre-shaped strap-end or buckle, cut-down attachment-end with rectangular-ended socket that would have contained the strap, pierced by two rivet-holes containing copper alloy wire which runs across the front of the socket. The face of the mount has an inscribed black-letter i (possibly from ihs) on a field of rocker-arm, broken across constriction at missing terminal. >22 x >19mm. Cf. Strap-ends of similar type in Fingerlin (1971) figs.274-6, and buckles 286 and 291. Second half 14th-early fifteenth century.
