Medieval spectacle buckle
Description
English: Cast copper alloy double-loop, oval spectacle buckle frame with bevelled internal edge. The pin bar is flush withh the frame and narrowed to 2 mm in thickness. The frame has a flat base and a convex profile in cross-section. There are the remains of moulded transverse and oblique grooves on the outer edge of both loops of the frame. The pin is missing.

Whitehead (1996) illustrates similar examples on page 54, Plate Nos.302 & 305, which are dated from 1500 to 1650.

Read (1988) illustrates similar examples on pages 109-110, Nos.667-668, which are dated from 1485 to 1600.
