Medieval single loop buckle with plate
Description
English: An incomplete and bent cast copper alloy buckle of medieval date. The artefact consists of a single looped sub-oval buckle with two knops on either side of the loop, one situated at either end where the loop joins with the outer edge, the other situated at either end of the pin bar. The buckle is 15.85mm in length, 16.6mm wide. The outer edge is broadly triangular in cross section and has been decorated with four incisions, two located at either edge where the outer edge joins with the loop and two located at the recess for the pin. The pin is incomplete. The plate is complete, it is broadly rectangular in plan and tapers slightly towards the tip, 28.65mm in length, 13.55mm wide (max) 10.4mm (min). It has been bent inwards half way along its length, a copper-alloy rivet survives located at the end of the plate. The buckle is bent towards the plate.
