Medieval single loop buckle
Description
English: Cast copper alloy medieval buckle dating from 1250-1400. The buckle has a single ‘D’-shaped loop and an offset and narrowed bar. The outer edge of the frame has cast decoration in the form of a notched lip with a transverse knop either side. The reverse of the buckle is flat and undecorated. The buckle weighs 1.86g and measures 16.72mm in length, 23.61mm in width and 3.05mm in thickness. A similar parallel can be seen in Ross Whitehead’s ‘Buckles 1250-1800’ p.22, No.90.
