Title
Medieval single loop buckle
Description
English: A Medieval incomplete cast copper alloy single loop buckle, dated to mainly c. 1250-1500 AD. The buckle frame is D-shaped with a narrowed and offset strap bar; the pin is missing. There is a groove near the centre of the strap bar, where the pin would have rotated. The outer and inner edges of the frame have been bevelled, however the reverse surface is flat. The buckle frame measures 15.23 mm long, 22.70 mm wide, 3.43 mm thick and weighs 2.4 grams. It is of an even grey-green patina, perhaps due to a higher tin content within the copper alloy. Cf. Whitehead 2003, p19.
