Medieval single loop buckle
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper-alloy probable single-looped medieval buckle with ornate outside edge. The pin bar, pin and a section of the frame are missing. The frames ornate outer edge in roughly square in plan and D shaped in cross section. The frame narrows with two concave grooves before thickening towards the pin rest. Adjacent to the frames outer edge are two protrusions which would have formed the remainder of the frame, one if broken the other is bent inwards towards the outer edge. The outer edge is decorated with two sets of parallel horizontal grooves which are inlaid with niello located at the edge of the frame. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The artefact has a light to mid green patina.
