Title
Medieval single loop buckle
Description
English:

An incomplete Medieval cast copper-alloy single-looped buckle.

The frame of the buckle is convex at the front, flat at the rear and sub-oval in plan. It is has an enlarged outside edge which has a central pin notch on the upper face. At each end of the outside edge there is a small rounded knop. One knop is damaged. There is a further notch just before each knop. The strap bar is offset, narrowed and is rectangular in cross-section. The pin is missing.

A similar example can be found in Egan and Pritchard, Dress Accessories c. 1150 - c. 1450, p. 73, fig. 44, ref: 292. Egan suggests that these type of buckles date c. 1350-c. 1400.
