Title
Medieval single Loop Buckle
Description
English: A copper-alloy single-loop buckle of Medieval (probably 13th -14th century) date.

The frame is roughly D-shaped, with a slight inward bulge at the centre of the outer side. The upper and lower surfaces are flat, while the inner and outer edges are steep. The plate has been bent towards the underside of the frame. It is of unusual, irregular form, the upper side being very short and having a right-angled projection at its bottom corner. A rivet at the top right corner secures the upper side of the plate to the back plate, the latter of which is of equal length, with tapering sides and a vertical distal end. At the end of the upper plate’s right-angled projection is a second in-situ rivet, which would presumably have secured the buckle to strap. The pin slot is located off-centre and the buckle plate has an inward ‘step’ on the edge below it. The upper surface of the upper side of the plate retains traces of gilding and bears a single vertical line of rocker-arm decoration.

The artefact measures 19.9mm long, 26.8mm wide and 8.6mm thick. The weight is 4.45g.
