Title |
Medieval single-looped trapezoidal buckle frame |
||
Description |
English: A cast copper-alloy single-looped medieval buckle of trapezoidal form, incomplete in so far as it is missing its pin. The corners are rounded. The outside edge is wide (26.0mm) and is bevelled externally on the upper surface with slight recessing on the lower surface. The sides are also slightly bevelled on the upper surface; the lower surface is largely flat. The pin bar is slightly narrowed and off set. It is plain compared to the upper surface and the sides which are decorated with diagonal grooves creating a ropework pattern. The metal has corroded to a dark-brown colour with some pitting and patches of off-white corrosion product. The pin bar has been been upwards slightly at one corner as a result of an old strike. For a buckle with similar decorative treatment see ref. HAMP-092477 on this database. |
