Title
Medieval seal matrix (impression, flipped and inverted)
Description
English: An almost complete copper-alloy seal matrix of medieval date (c. AD 1200-1400).

The seal matrix die is circular in plan, with a tapering handle (6 facets) ending in a raised collar and lozengiform suspension loop with a circular perforation. The die consists of a central design surrounded by an inscription (now very worn and illegible). The central design depicts a stag's head (caboshed) with a cross between the antlers, surrounded by a circular single groove border. The stag with cross motif has been linked with the visions of St Hubert or St Eustace.
