Title
Medieval rectangular frame buckle, front
Description
English: Copper alloy composite buckle dating to the medieval period (1300-1500). The buckle frame is rectangular with the pin remaining intact. The pin bar is narrowed and the rectangular buckle plate is a sheet wrapped around the pin bar and secured in place around the strap with two copper alloy circular rivets. The plate is not complete on the reverse of the buckle but has broken away around the rivet fittings. The front of the plate has some evidence of gilding and there is a rollered decorative border around the edge of the plate. The buckle weighs 4.03g and 19.8mm in width, 17.69mm in length and 3.8mm in thickness.
