Title
Medieval rectangular buckle
Description
English: Cast copper alloy rectangular buckle from the Medieval period.

The frame is complete and would have had a separate bar which is now missing, as is the pin. The long sides of the frame are shaped with 4 crenellations on each side. The short sides end in a rectangular projection also. Where the strap bar would have attached to the buckle there is widening for a hole. The buckles short sides are bent up so from the side the buckle is a shallow V-shape.

A similar example was found in London and dated to c.1270-1350 (Egan and Pritchard; 1998; 97). They probably had a longer period of use than this however.
