Title
Medieval rectangular buckle
Description
English: A worn medieval cast copper-alloy rectangular buckle. The frame has slightly convex sides, with a slight transverse ridge near each corner. The outer edge is thick (W: 6.6mm, Th: 5.6mm), and features three filed central transverse grooves on its upper face: two of these taper towards the outer edge, with the other groove in between. There is a further groove towards each edge which is mirrored on the lower face as well. The pin is missing. The bar is offset and slightly narrowed. This buckle dates from the medieval period and it is similar to examples illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (1991, 96-97) which are dated to the second half of the fourteenth century.
