Medieval pin |
||
Description |
English: Treasure Report: 2011 T244 'Colchester District', Essex: Medieval pin or needle
Description:A medieval pin or needle, with a hexagonal shaft and a circular aperture at one end. The object is silver and dates from the late twelfth or the thirteenth century. Dimensions: length 40 mm. Discussion: For a comparable example in base metal, see Geoff Egan, The Medieval Household, (Museum of London 1991)p.269, no. 834. Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
