Title
Medieval papal bulla
Description
English: Part of a Medieval lead alloy Papal Bulla of Pope John XXII. Length: 34.2 mm, width: 19.5 mm, thickness: 4.9 mm, weight: 18.81 g. The object is in fair condition with a cream patina. The bulla is worn but shows Saint Paul on the obverse, facing right, with the letters SPA above. This missing half would depict Saint Peter. On the reverse is inscribed [IO]HA // [NN]ES // [PPX]XII. John was Pope between 1316 and 1334. This seal would have been attached to a Papal document. There are only five other Bullae of John II on the database to date. Compare LEIC-410880, NARC-1572E4, SUR-118FB1, SUSS-B91BE0 and KENT-5CEF43.
