Title
Medieval papal bulla, innocent iv
Description
English: A medieval cast lead alloy papal bulla of Pope Innocent IV (1243-1254). The "obverse" carries the name of the pope in three lines INNO/CENTIUS/PP IIII; and the "reverse" has the usual portraits of Saints Peter and Paul beneath the letters SPA SPE. There is a cross between the two portraits.

On the reverse, wedge shaped notches can be seen at the top and bottom where the attachment cord entered and exited. The bulla has a light cream patina, but on the right side of the obverse are two marks, possibly from a plough; otherwise it is in very good condition. The bulla is also slightly bent at this point. It is oval in shape, being 37.12mm long, 37.59mm wide, and 4.91mm thick. It weighs 40.41gm.

There are 18 other examples on the database (a relatively large amount).
