Title
Medieval page-holder
Description
English: Incomplete medieval page-holder, bent and broken arm with rectangular plate terminal decorated with an engraved rocker-arm saltire within a border. Width 19mm. Length >46mm.

Page holders occur on both lay and ecclesiastical sites (Biddle, M., Winchester, 1990, 756). There is a marked bias in the distribution of Norfolk examples towards parishes with strong monastic associations: East Rudham (Norfolk Historic Environment Record number 41004), Great Dunham (NHER 45401), Flitcham with Appleton (NHER 52540), Horsham St Faith (NHER 35284), Pentney (NHER 35314), West Acre (NHER 3983 and 33660), Norwich (Greyfriars, NHER 845) and Wymondham (NHER 33069). Possible fragments have been found in Ashill (NHER 31587) and Attleborough (NHER 30098). 13th-14th century.
