Title
Medieval oval buckle.
Description
English: Copper alloy oval buckle from the 13/14th centuries.

The frame is complete but the pin is missing and this type of buckle would probably have been attached to a buckle plate. The bar is offset and has a rectangular section whereas the rest of the frame has a circular section. The front edge of the buckle has two lobed knops with a sheet roller in between them.

Similar examples for the buckle are illustrated in Egan, G, & Pritchard, F, 2002 edition, ‘Medieval Finds from Excavations in London: 3: Dress Accessories c. 1150 – c. 1450’, pages 72-3 & 76-8, particularly no.317.
